Academy pupils win gold at the UK Games

Congratulations to Banbridge Academy pupils Scott Watson, Jake Rowe, Orla Thompson and Katie McKee who have returned back at school this week as UK School Games Champions.

They were joined by the school’s Master in Charge of Hockey, Mr Mark Cordner.

On the Saturday morning, the U16 Girls opened their account by facing Scotland. Ulster were an attacking threat from the off and won the game 4-0 with goals coming from Jessica McMaster, Rebecca Lobo, Katie McKee and Hannah Irwin. The U16 Boys also faced Scotland who had beaten Wales 4-0 on the previous day.

The Ulstermen came out 4-2 winners with Andrew O’Hare grabbing two and Jake Rowe and Kyle Marshall grabbing one a piece.

Wales were the opponents for Ulster on Sunday and the U16 Boys were first up in the morning and looked confident following the victory over Scotland.

They performed very well throughout and ended up with a 6-1 victory with Andrew O’Hare scoring a hat-trick, Luke Witherow grabbing two and Scott McCabe scoring late on.

The girls then faced Wales and Ulster were a dominant threat throughout coming away with a magnificent 7-1 win with Jessica McMaster, Jane Kilpatrick and Rachel Burns grabbing two each with Hannah Irwin completing the scoring.
