Red Star A 5
Kevin's 2
WHAT a match this turned out to be!
The Star were the underdogs going into this cup final against Kevin's after losing the league playoff to the latter but by the halfway stage it was the Star who were in a convincing 4-0 lead.
But after the break Kevin's were back in the game, winning the remaining two single matches.
This was only a little hiccup for the Star who made sure the cup was staying at the Scarva street venue, winning the first pair's game.
At the oche for the first game was Mel Hamill against Kevin's captain Mark Kelly who was first to throw.
Mark (116) was on the double first but his missed chances saw him come from tops to leave seven to do and Mel took the lead with a good 98 finish.
In the second leg Mel was in the lead and a 94 left 32, Mark hit 133 to get back into the game but it was too late as Mel finished with double eight, double eight for game.
Neville Reid and Star captain Alan McKnight were next to the board and steady darts from Alan (100) and a 66 finish on 21 darts left Neville (140) needing 118.
In leg two Neville (137) was level when a double two left Alan (100) on 39 but it was missed doubles in the deciding leg by Neville (100, 95) that left him on five to do and Alan (100) checked out on 36.
Game three and Steven Banks and Stars' Maurice Orr were next to battle and it was a doubles battle for both.
Maurice (95) had seven arrows at the finish and Steven (100, 100) had similar darts after busting on 84 before taking the lead. But Maurice (100) took advantage of Steven's poor scoring and a 88 finish levelled the legs
The deciding leg was close. Steven (121, 99) was on 78 when Maurice (125) gave the Star a 3-0 lead with a 99 finish, treble 19, single 10 and double 16.
Brendan Kelly found himself trailing on 170 when Ian Redmond (95, 98), who was in form, hit a 96 score, left 40 and the first dart next throw gave him the lead.
Brendan had his chance to level in the next leg before a double five won Ian (97) the game and extended the Stars lead.
Kevin's opened their account through Nigel Peden who was throwing against the injured Jim Brown (95), who had to revert to throwing at the nineteen's and was left on 120 when Nigel finished on 36.
Jim (95) got a chance in leg two to level before Nigel finished with double 17.
Kevin's John Broome and Alan Cochrane were paired in the last singles game and this turned out to be the best game of the night with both throwing top darts
Alan (2x100) was on 42 when John (2x140) took the lead on double 10.
John (100) had the lead in leg two but a 174 from Alan brought him into the game and a class 106 finish next throw levelled the legs.
The deciding leg had the spectators sitting on the edge of their seats.
