Once the showers passed it turned out to be a great day for all with the emphasis on promoting carriage driving safely and encouraging non drivers to take up the reins.

Some of the activities included cone driving, guess the name game of items used to look after a horse/pony; putting a harness together, (timed for the more experienced juniors) / team building for younger ones; a hazard spotting competition and face painting.

The BDS has become an Awarding Body for qualifications recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). Northern Ireland now have two BDS approved assessors who were presented with their certificates on the day by BDS NI Chairman Eugene Larkin.

A positive breakthrough responding to the growing demand, both trainers had a very busy day putting people at their ease and allowing them to really enjoy the experience of rein handling and sitting behind a pony.

A heart-warming invitation was extended to special guest Nigel Moore, a trustee of the Sam Moore Fund for their continuing support, helping develop safety and skills in equine sports.

The Sam Moore Fund helped finance the Juniors attend the Irish Carriage Driving camp at Swingletree Farm in Norfolk in July 2008 and again in July 2009. Nigel also had a lesson on rein handling before enjoying the mouth-watering BBQ which was there for all to enjoy.
