THE first annual Teggart Memorial Competition in Aid of Cystic Fibrosis was held at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore on Saturday and proved to be a big success.
Conditions were perfect for fishing with the wind changing from the east to the north and a lot of trout started to show.
A lot of the bigger trout was being caught but unfortunately most of them managed to get off. Ronnie McFadden, Lisburn, was
lucky enough to land his, weighing in at 4lb and giving him a three fish bag weight of 9lb1 taking him into first place in the fly fishing competition. Ronnie was fishing his old faithful cat’s whisker.
Second place went to Noel Roberts, Donacloney with a three fish weight of 6lb13 while Gerry Teggart, Belfast took third place with his three trout weighing in at 6lb10.
The bait competition was a success with young Matthew Teggart taking first place with his bag weighing in at 6lb8.
Second place with a weight of 6lb4 went to Conor Teggart and third went to Gerard Hall with his weight of 6lb1.
The Hollow Springs Lake is fishing very well with most anglers catching and returning large quantities of fish.
Newcastle boys Paul Travers, John Foster and Mark Murray released a total of 70 trout between them fishing buzzers on bite indicators.
Al Ure, Lurgan had two good days catching 25 and then 27 the next day also on buzzers.
Paul Laffin was fishing hares ear and montanas to return 29 trout. Pat Webb now holds the record for the most trout caught releasing a whopping 50 fish in one day, all on his own buzzer patterns.
Pat’s best fish was a lovely trout weighing in at 4lb1.
