Mr Pat Cumiskey has been appointed Acting Chief Executive of Banbridge District Council following the recent departure of his predecessor, Mr Liam Hannaway.
Having joined Banbridge District Council in 1989, Pat has devoted 25 years of his working life to the organisation.
With his background in chartered accountancy, he has played a lead role in overseeing the financial planning and management of the council.
In his previous roles of Chief Finance Officer, Director of Finance and Administration and Director of Corporate Services, he has been largely responsible for working closely with senior management and councillors to ensure the council maintains a healthy financial position.
As well as being involved in promoting good governance throughout the organisation, he has been responsible for delivering on the many objectives of the corporate plan and ensuring that the council’s professional support services meet current and future business needs.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I look forward to the challenge of steering Banbridge District Council through its final year towards its amalgamation with the councils of Armagh and Craigavon.
“My focus will be to assist staff meet the challenge of change and ensure that existing services are not compromised in the process.
“I am very grateful to local councillors for entrusting me with this position and to my predecessor for leaving such an integrated and smooth functioning organisation to work in.
“I also look forward to working with our colleagues in Armagh and Craigavon to ensure that the new council carries forward the most positive attributes of all three councils.
“It promises to be a very challenging time ahead for all involved.”
Pat will remain in the post until March 31 2015, when Roger Wilson, currently working with Coleraine Council will take over the reins as the new Chief Executive of the new Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council.
