Fiesta flavour for Dromara show

It was forty years ago the Ford Motor Company launched the three-door Fiesta range which became one of the most popular models to bear the famous oval blue badge, and Brendan will be showing one of his prized collection - a 1983 XR2 model which has been meticulously maintained.

This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the “golden bellies” - the specially prepared Ferguson 35 tractors with gold painted engines - and local farmer Frank Fegan will be displaying his vehicle.

All vintage and classic vehicles and equipment are welcome to take part in this traditionally popular show, but a bumper programme of other attractions are also being laid on to entertain.

The Slieve Croob Flying Club will be staging a light aircraft display, the Dromara Art Club will exhibit their work and special activities have been arranged to keep the children amused.

Motor cycle fans will be keen to meet special guest Ray McCullough, one of the legendary Dromara Destroyers, who will be bringing his famous bike to the show which is being held during the week-long Village Festival.

This year the show is dedicated to the memory of Pat Braniff a founder member and to Will Sloan a former honorary member, who have both sadly passed away in the past 18 months.

While local good causes will benefit, the designated charity this year is the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund.

Club chairman Brian McGrillen organised a Country and Western concert in aid of the fund last month that raised over £3,000, and revealed that a Threshing Day on Dan Flynn’s farm had raised a further £600 for the appeal.

“Hopefully the Show will be a great success again this year,” he said. “We would like to thank Dromara Football Club for the use of their excellent facilities and local man Robert Fee who will be allowing us the use of his land as an overspill car park.”

Brian, who received a kidney transplant in June 2006, said it was vital to assist the great work of Kidney Research Fund and thanked everyone who had put so much effort into the planning for the show.
