Dromore Scouts centenary events underway

Dromore’s Scouts got the ball rolling on a year of centenary events with a recent

celebratory service in

Banbridge Road

Presbyterian Church.

Current and past members of the local Scout group attended the service, along with friends and family.

Minister, the Rev Gary Trueman, led the service and James Maguire, a past leader of the Dromore Scout group, delivered the address.

Also taking part was Margaret McGrehan, who served as a Cub leader for more than 40 years.

Past Scout leaders attending the service included Ted Potts, Jackie Reid, Alistair Hamilton, Jimmy Watson, Addison McKee and Michael Masters. The County Commissioner for Down, Stephen Donaldson, and South Down District Commissioner Rodney Watson (himself a past leader at First Dromore) were also in attendance.

Each of the sections in the group renewed their promise, in which they were led by Beverly Nichol, Squirrels; Glenda Galloway, Beavers; John Bradshaw, Cubs; Harry Maguire, Scouts; leaders and past members.

Leading the singing was the Church Praise Group, among them Colin Heaney, Andy Robinson and Kate Maguire as well as David and Michael McKee, both former members of Dromore Scouts.

Other centenary events in the pipeline include a reunion in the Scout Hall and a special Centenary Camp.

The camp is planned for May this year and the reunion is expected to take place in June.
