Local health and social care staff, who have made a real difference to those they care for, could be in the running for the Southern Trust’s annual Excellence Awards.

The Trust is asking for members of the public to nominate a member of staff who has made a big difference to their lives for the People’s Choice Award.

Elizabeth Mahood, non-executive director with the Trust and chairperson of the Excellence Awards Committee, said, “The annual awards recognise staff who make a difference to patients and clients by going that extra mile. The People’s Choice award is for Trust employees who have demonstrated exceptional care to a patient, client or relative. Maybe their kindness, professionalism or expert care made a big difference.”

Those seeking to make a nomination should outline the impact the member of staff or team in question has made on the life of the carer.

Last year, the award was won by nurse Deborah McDaid who works in Craigavon Area Hospital.

The person who nominated her said, “Even though Nurse McDaid was obviously very busy she took the time to explain to myself and my wife what was happening as we were both very concerned.

“I was in a lot of pain but her easy manner and comforting words helped me very much. Her ability to be both professional and kind made all the difference to us in what was a very frightening experience.”

To nominate please pick up a nomination form in any Trust facility, or via the Trust’s website: www.southerntrust.hscni.net or phone 3741 2586. . Closing date and time for nominations is January 31 2014.
