LOCAL people should come out and support their local torchbearers this summer ahead of the Olympics.

That is the rallying call of one Upper Bann MLA Jo-Anne Dobson following the announcement of the official torchbearers in the local area.

Ballyvarley athlete Dan Lennon is one such man - the 88-year-old will carry the torch through Gilford in June. (see his story on page three of this week’s Leader).

Mrs Dobson said, “I would encourage as many people as possible to arrange to take part in this event and to support our local Torchbearers because this really gives local people a chance to take part in the Olympics. Each of the torchbearers has a special story or will have made positive contributions to our local community.”
