THE Civil Service Retirement Fellowship meeting was held on Wednesday February 1.
After welcoming everyone to the meeting, the Chairperson, Margaret Stevenson, introduced the guest speaker, Mr Tom Roberts from the Restore shop at Banbridge District Council’s recycling centre.
The shop opened on March 16 2009 and is the only one of its kind in the UK offering both training and recycling.
The centre offers training to the unemployed and those needing re-skilling are offered placements from the Probation Service, Youth Justice, Usel (voluntary sector), People 1st and Clanrye.
The training is offered in electrical servicing with level two NVQ qualification and furniture restoration is also offered as a skill.
There are a number of benefits for the local community in that it offers training, reduces waste going to landfill and provides good quality products for resale in the shop.
