SDLP Banbridge District Council candidate Marie Hamilton has urged people to avail of the Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) Energy free insulation scheme.
She said, “I strongly encourage people to avail of the NIE free loft and cavity wall insulation scheme in order to reduce their heating bills and ultimately save money.
“Energy costs currently take a huge chunk out of people’s income and with the rising price of fuel; it is becoming more and more difficult for people to afford to ke ep warm.
“Rather than wait until the cold weather sets in, I appeal to people to take action now to make their homes warmer.
“This scheme is available to homeowners and private renters with low incomes. However, grants are given on a first come, first served basis so I strongly urge all those who are eligible to act now, rather than later.
“It is important that we do everything we can to combat fuel poverty in our community and I commend the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme for their efforts in bringing about this very useful initiative which is a great example of how government can really improve the quality of life for people in the North.”
