Upper Bann MP David Simpson has said that £5 million has been set aside by the British Government to conserve and protect war memorials across the United Kingdom.

In a written question, Mr. Simpson asked what steps the Government would take to refurbish current war memorials in Northern Ireland. Mr Simpson has welcomed its commitment and called on people to take advantage. “This particular funding opportunity is another chance for people to re-dedicate our love and dignity for those who laid down their lives for our freedom,” said Mr Simpson.

“During the lead up to the commemorations of WW1 in 2016, the people of Banbridge and surrounding areas will have numerous opportunities to remember the fallen and I look forward to joining them at these prestigious events.”
