Year 11 pupils have got the KEY

YEAR 11 pupils at Dromore High School are getting involved in the KEY Programme, which resumes again this month.

The KEY (Knowledge through Enterprise for Youth) is a cross border and cross community project to encourage personal development in young people through enterprise training and outdoor activities. This year the school is working with Colaiste Feirste School, Belfast and Mohill Community School.

The selection for the KEY programme is rigorous and demand is always high for places. This year’s successful Year 11 applicants are Kelsea Knox, Jhezamin Ramos, Rachel Mckee, Rebecca Smith, Grace Pepper, Sophie Fletcher, Johnny Millar, Andrew Gardiner, Christopher Tate, Ryan Corbett, Adam Cromwell and Aleksey Pavlyuk.

The KEY Programme is entirely residential based and is held at Roscor Youth Village near Enniskillen.

During residential one the 12 students took part in gorge walking which involved plunging into a raging river as well as many team- building exercises. During residential two they, prepared CVs on our complimentary memory pens and visited an actual haunted house.

During residentials three and four the KEY pupils can look forward to being interviewed by members of the business community, which will be very challenging but very rewarding. Also, they will design, manufacture advertise and sell products at a nearby shopping centre. They will even get to keep the profits! Along with these enterprise skills the pupils will get the chance to surf (sea not web!), learn how to cook from scratch outdoors and canoe to an island where they will camp for a night in teepees!

The project will culminate in an all action and entertainment graduation ceremony in the Waterfront Hall, where the pupils will be awarded their CCEA endorsed KEY certificates.
