STEWART PLAYS HIS CARDS RIGHT
BANBRIDGE man Stewart Brown has won a place in a prestigious poker tournament in the Caribbean with a prize fund of $1 million.
Stewart, who only started playing poker five years ago, will be competing in the Caribbean Poker Classic in November after winning an online competition at LittlewoodsPoker.com.
His adventure begins in Miami where he will sail on the world's largest and most innovative cruise ship, the Freedom of the Seas, and explore some of the Caribbean's most exotic locations with ports of call at Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Maarten.
The skiing instructor said he was he was looking forward to getting out on the cruise and competing against other gamers.
"I am really excited to be going on this trip, as it is regarded one of the biggest poker events in the world," he said.
"I usually just play online poker for cash games, so it's great to get the chance to go to exotic places like this and play against some of the world's best players.
"When I first got started with online poker five years ago, I was looking for a gaming experience with a large skill factor. I wanted to feel that any success I had would be down to my own skill, rather than just luck.
"This will be my first major tournament as well so it's going to be a big experience for me.
"I prefer to play online rather than face to face too - I rarely do play like that because of the convenience of playing online so it's going to be interesting to see how I get on.
"I'd usually play for a couple of hours online a day depending on how I'm doing, if I'm winning then I'd play for longer."

He will be joined on the Caribbean high seas by former Chelsea and Republic of Ireland player Tony Cascarino, who is the sponsored professional with Littlewoods Poker, and a host of top players from around the world.
Gamers are currently being given the chance to join the lucky player at the CPC event for as little as a 2.50 stake in one of Littlewoods Poker's daily satellite tournaments.
Every week, punters will be given the chance to win a 2,500 Caribbean cruise by triumphing through one of its weekly final tournaments, which take place every Sunday at 6pm.
The 39-year old admits that he is still to make up his mind as to what he would do if he won the top prize.
He added: "I think first place wins something like $300,000 and then the rest is spread out amongst the other top finishers.
"If I won I don't know what I'd do with the money - it would certainly help to pay a few bills!"
