A SCOUT from Banbridge who will climb Northern Ireland’s highest mountain said he is honoured to be part of the Paralympic challenge.

Thirteen-year-old Josh Morrison from 2nd Banbridge Scouts is one of the lucky four chosen to scale Slieve Donard to create a beacon flame that will be used to light the Paralympic torches.

Other representatives will climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in England.

The scouts will set out at 6am on August 22 to create the flames using natural resources and scouting skills.

Josh said he is honoured to be chosen to part of such an important event and is excited at the prospect of creating a flame that will eventually light the Paralympic Cauldron.

The flame from the fire will be used to light a lantern which will safely transport the flame down from the mountain and on to light the Paralympic torch.
