Property repossessed after anti social behaviour
THE Housing Executive has said they were left with no alternative but to re-possess a property in the Manor/Warren area recently because of 'persistent anti social behaviour' by a tenant.
The Executive's Lisburn manager Jill England said the behaviour had caused great annoyance and nuisance to neighbours over a protracted period of time.
"Despite talking to the tenant about the consequences of this type of behaviour, the nuisance continued and we were left with no alternative but to seek re-possession of the property" she said.
"We are committed to ensuring that all residents have the right to the quiet enjoyment of their homes and to this end we will seek to enforce all breaches of tenancy."
She said that dealing with anti-social behaviour is not the sole responsibility of the Housing Executive and the support of the local community is crucial.
Jill England explained: "This support enables the Housing Executive to take action against tenants whose behaviour causes distress and anxiety to other residents.
"It is important to note that we cannot take legal action against anyone involved in anti-social behaviour without evidence. A court will not grant an injunction or remove a tenancy without proof.
"Court action is very much a last resort if all other attempts to mediate with the tenants involved do not work. However, where appropriate, we will not hesitate to take eviction action should the circumstances warrant this."
