Historical Society on the move

IT’S a time of change for Banbridge Historical Society with meetings now being held in Banbridge’s Old Town Hall in Scarva Street.

This building has just reopened after extensive refurbishment with the Tourist Information Office on the ground floor and a large meeting room on the first floor with all the necessary mod cons.

The Society is most appreciative to the members of Banbridge District Council for their kind co-operation in the letting of this meeting room for their meetings which, as usual, will be held on the first Thursday night of the month during the winter season.

The first meeting will be held on September 6, starting at 7.30pm, with local historian Mr Gordon Lucy giving an illustrated talk on The Ulster Covenant.

With this year being the centenary of the signing, Mr Lucy’s talk will cover the background and origins of the event and the reasons for so many wishing to sign the document on that historic day of September 28, 1912.

All members and visitors are most welcome.
