HEATHER'S NOT A BLUE BELLE ANY MORE THANKS TO THE LEADER

A bride-to-be left in the lurch without a florist just two weeks before her wedding has thanked the Leader and Orchid Studios in Portadown for stepping in to save her big day from disaster.

Heather Acheson (28) from Pinley Drive in Banbridge, contacted the paper to express her anger and disappointment after she had been left high and dry by Rathfriland Street florist Bluebells.

The business closed without warning and the couple have been unable to get in contact with the owner despite having paid a deposit and made arrangements for the wedding.

Last week, the Leader exclusively reported that police are currently investigating a number of complaints relating to the floristry business.

It is also understood that many of Bluebells' customers, including other brides-to-be, were left without flower arrangements despite having paid deposits.

However, Heather's plight caught the attention of a number of local florists who kindly offered to prepare flowers at a special reduced price.

And now Heather and her 31-year-old fianc Chris, who will be getting married at Bannside Presbyterian Church next Saturday, will have beautiful flowers for their big day courtesy of Orchid Studios based in Bridge Street, Portadown. The Leader also contributed to the flower bill.

The blushing bride-to-be said she was heartened by the kindness shown by the public. "This is just completely fantastic. I have to thank the Leader and Neil at Orchid Studios for stepping in to help us out," Heather explained.

"Chris and I can now relax knowing that our flowers have been sorted out and I'd also like to thank the other florists who got in contact to offer to do our flowers."

She added, "There are a lot of good people out there and I just feel sorry for everyone who was let down by Bluebells."

Neil Anderson of Orchid Studios said that he felt compelled to offer his help after he read the story in the Leader. "A wedding day should be the most special day in a couple's lives and I just wanted to ensure that Heather had the best flowers – as any bride-to-be should have – for her big day."

He added, "I'm just glad that we were able to step in and help Heather and Chris out."
