Gilford traffic-calming plan ‘excessive’ - Hanna

RESIDENTS of Gilford’s Castle Hill are being urged to check out plans for traffic calming measures - dubbed “excessive” by at least one councillor - due to be introduced this year.

The scheme was drawn up by Roads Service in response to a request from Banbridge District Council, but Councillor John Hanna insisted at last week’s monthly meeting that the eight road humps proposed were “totally excessive”.

“I cannot see how they need eight sets of humps up Castle Hill,” he said.

Councillor Seamus Doyle, meanwhile, was among those eager for local people to air their views; there were, he thought, two schools in the area, and he wanted to know the thoughts of the people whose children attended them.

Mr. Hanna agreed it was “absolutely paramount” that the public be consulted and he felt the matter should be put before Gilford Forum.

Councillors resolved to make the scheme plans available at the new Gilford Community Centre and Councillor Ian Burns said he would encourage local people to go along and view them in good time to offer their opinions.
