TWO Kinallen schoolgirls have earned a round of applause from Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sisters Emma and Olivia Lutton, raised £141.38 for the charity, recently presenting a cheque to Richard Shaw.

Richard is next month undertaking a challenging eight-day trek in the Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA, with a group of other like-minded people, all of whom have been affected in some way by cancer.

Emma and Olivia raised money by face painting, raffling a doll at their school, Fairhill Primary, and having a fun day at home.

The girls would like to thank everyone who helped and supported them in all their efforts.

Speaking about their fundraising, Richard said, “I want to express my sincere thanks to them on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care for raising such a magnificent sum.

“To be so young and yet to recognise the value of helping others is tremendous; they are an inspiration to everyone.

“Unfortunately, the frightening statistic that one in three of us will get cancer, means that we all need to do our utmost, to not only help those affected, but to assist in vital research that will some day offer a cure for this disease.

“That is what this money, raised by these two girls and their friends and family, will be used towards.

“My target of £3,500 has been significantly exceeded with the support of both friends and local businesses and it represents a significant contribution in the fight against cancer.”
