Dromara girl's plight prompts charity event

A LITTLE Dromara girl who suffers from a rare disorder called Hyperinsulinism has moved local people to raise money for children with the condition.

Earlier this year the Leader and its sister paper The Weekender highlighted the story of two-year-old Georgina Bailey.

And as a result of the articles, Dromara people have been raising money for the Children’s Hyperinsulinism Fund.

Georgina’s mum Christine said: “At the end of March two local organisations each held events and raised much appreciated funds.

“The Finnis Rural Development Group raised over 200 at their charity dance on March 30 and the following night, which was Georgina’s second birthday, the committee at St. Michael’s Hall at Finnis raised 360 with their charity dance and ballot.

“These fantastic amounts have been raised, I feel, in response to the Leader highlighting this condition.”

Christine added that another event has also been organised to raise money.

She said: “In response to the Leader and Weekender newspaper articles another charity night has been organised by local people in King’s Bar at Finnis, Massford, Dromara.”

The event, which will be held this Friday, April 20, at 8pm, is being hosted by Seamus McKay.

Music will be provided by Tom O'Rourke and Conor McKay.

A cover charge of 4 includes light refreshments.
