Dogs removed after joint USPCA and PSNI operation
OVER SIXTY dogs have been removed from an alleged 'puppy farm' on the outskirts of Lisburn by USPCA officials and the PSNI.
The dogs were handed over to USPCA Welfare Inspectors when they visited the farm on Thursday, following an initial visit on Wednesday evening.
Stephen Philpott, Chief Executive of the USPCA, said they had acted in response to concerns expressed by a member of the public.
Following the USPCA's initial visit on Wednesday evening, he said that 50 live animals, both adult and pups, were on the farm, with several being removed by the charity for veterinary treatment.
However, following a second visit on Thursday, he said all the animals had been taken away.
"The USPCA was willingly assisted in the rescue and removal of the dogs by the Dog Warden services of Lisburn City and Castlereagh Borough Councils and we are indebted for their assistance and that of our colleagues in the PSNI" he said.
A PSNI Spokesperson stated: "At approximately 2:20pm on February 24, police received a report in relation to concerns about animal welfare at a property in Lisburn.
"The PSNI and USPCA attended the scene and a number of animals were removed by the USPCA. Enquiries are ongoing."
