Dobson attends Choral Evensong for UWUC
THE Ulster Women’s Unionist Council (UWUC) have brought a packed year-long events schedule to celebrate their Centenary to a fitting close with a Choral Evensong held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh.
The service was led by the Dean, The Very Rev Gregory Dunstan with the sermon preached by Rev Dorothy McVeigh of St Francis Church, Annaghmore.
Local UUP MLA, and member of the Council, Jo-Anne Dobson who participated in the service said afterwards “It was amazing to attend such a wonderful service in such a fitting setting as St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh City.
“Since its formation in 1911, the Council have been an outlet for the talent of hundreds of thousands of Unionist Women and as well as one hundred years of proud history, has a vision for a future of continued service to the Unionist cause.
“It was fitting to see so many people coming along to take part and to honour the memory of those members of the Council who, over its one hundred years, have made so many positive contributions to Northern Ireland society.”
Mrs Dobson attended the service alongside her mother Joanie Elliott, Vice President of the UWUC and treasurer of the Upper Bann UWUC Branch and newly elected Upper Bann UUP Women’s Development Officer, Sandra Emerson.
Ulster Unionist Party Leader Tom Elliott, UWUC President Lady Trimble, Chairman May Steele MBE and Secretary Olive Whitten MBE also took an active role in the service.
