CCTV concern

CONCERN has been raised that there is a “blank spot” in the CCTV coverage in Banbridge town centre.

A camera had to be removed from the newly renovated Old Town Hall but the council said there has been some difficulty in getting a new site on which to mount a CCTV camera.

At last week’s council meeting Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Curran said he had spoken to one of the sergeants in charge of montioring the cameras in the town centre and he had alerted him to a blank spot following the removal of the device previously at the Old Town Hall on the corner of Scarva Street and Bridge Street.

Voicing his concern on the matter, Mr Curran called for the camera to be reinstated in the area around the Cut as soon as possible.

The Council’s Director of Community and Enterprise said they have been working hard to find a new site for the camera and hope to install one with a 360 degree view of the area.

The council had been looking at a site for the camera in recent times but said that application was “on the verge of being turned down” and they are currently appealing to property owners in the area to see if they can help with a new site.
