Bus station call renewed

DESPITE a December meeting on the matter, there has been no further progress on plans for a bus station in Banbridge town centre, according to the DUP.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy visited the town two months ago and, when asked about the facility, he stressed that it was still something he was keen to get in place for Banbridge.

But Upper Bann DUP MLA Sydney Anderson said the lack of progress since then has been disappointing.

“We need this scheme to be brought forward and for a new station to actually be built,” he said. “This is needed to take buses off the main street.”

“ and tackle the long standing problem of traffic congestion in the town centre particularly during school term time when the town centre can be virtually choked with buses. Going ahead would also free up car parking spaces in the town.

“We don’t need any more photo calls on this: we need the Minister to take it off the long finger.”
