BLUE BELLES

A BRIDE-to-be has been left frantically searching for a florist to prepare flowers for her wedding in two weeks' time after a Rathfiland Street-based floristry business unexpectedly closed last month.

The bride-to-be, who did not wish to be named, contacted the Leader to say that she had paid a 50 deposit to Bluebells florist shop but when she tried to get in contact with the owner to discuss preparations for her wedding, the business had shut up shop.

Angry and upset that she had been left out of pocket in the run-up to her big day, her fianc contacted the police last week on her behalf to make a formal complaint.

She said, "We had an appointment with the owner but we couldn't get in contact. Eventually, we decided to pay a visit to Bluebells and found the shutters down. Now I have to find a florist at short notice which is really stressful."

lurch

Her fianc explained, "I'm absolutely furious that we've been left in the lurch and although we only lost our deposit, we're now getting quotes from other florists which are 300 - 400 more than what we originally planned to spend."

He added that he is aware that other couples have found themselves without a florist for their big day. "We've heard that others have paid the full amount and have nothing to show for it. I think if the owner had at least contacted us to let us know that the business was closing, then this last minute rush could've been avoided."

However, the couple added that they are confident they will be able to find a replacement in time for their wedding, which is to be held later this month.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI confirmed to the Leader that a number of Bluebell customers had contacted them regarding its sudden closure. She said, "Police are aware of a number of complaints concerning the closure of the business in question and are currently investigating the matter."

The Leader was unable to contact the owner of Bluebells.
