Literary events part of festival

Dromore Library this week kicks off a series of literary events being rolled out by Libraries NI in support of Banbridge Arts Festival.

A spokesperson said: “The Festival is a must-see for everyone’s cultural calendar.

“Building on Northern Ireland’s burgeoning literary scene, Libraries NI has programmed some well-known and successful ‘literati’ bringing a little bit of ‘Fringe’ excitement to library venues.”

Events begin from 7-8pm at Dromore Library tomorrow (Wednesday) with a storytelling session by renowned Northern Ireland writer and storyteller Liz Weir.

In Banbridge Library, from 11am to 12noon on Saturday, October 18, Alice McCullough will deliver a rare masterclass.

Hailed one of the most captivating new voices to emerge on the wave of spoken word talent rising in Northern Ireland, Alice will talk participants through exploring a fresh approach to poetry and unlock new and creative ways of writing and performing.

She will offer a range of inspirational starting points for writing and provide helpful tools and simple exercises, as well as sharing and discussing favourite performers.Alice returns to Banbridge Library on Tuesday, October 21 for ‘Earth to Alice’ in which she invites you to experience her guerrilla-style stand-up and theatrical performance.

The literary events conclude with Margaret O Mourne performing ‘Halloween Tales’ at Rathfriland Library on Tuesday 28 October, from 7-8pm, reciting her stories and tales of ‘The Mournes.’

Elizabeth McAleer of Libraries NI, added: “We want to bring an attractive cultural line-up of literary events into our venues to be enjoyed by everyone; working in partnership with the Festival ensures our continued focus on providing cultural and creative development.”All events are free.
