LED street lighting scheme raised again

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart has raised the issue of LED street lighting with the Minister for Infrastructure.

The Upper Bann representative asked the department how many complaints had been made received from members of the public and what changes had to be carried out to make the lighting serviceable.

In response the Minister showed that 291 complaints had been received regarding the Banbridge and Craigavon pilot project and 72 locations required remedial work involving over 267 adjustments.

Carla Lockhart said, “ This scheme was ill thought out by the Minister necessitating so much additional work and inconvenience to householders in the Banbridge and Craigavon areas.

“This scheme caused a lot of anger as there was no consultation carried out. With a properly planned scheme this may have been much more successful in its implementation and I am glad that this work has been carried out but believe there is more work to do. If the lighting in your area is not up to standard contact my office and I will ensure the department completes additional work.”
