Housing Executive's £576k scheme starts

The scheme will install new insulated cladding to 32 properties. The roofs of the properties will be replaced with new profiled metal coverings and the existing concrete bases of the properties will be insulated.

Local contractor Hetherington Painting and Building Contractors will carry out the work on behalf of the Housing Executive.

South Area Project Manager John O’Hagan said: “The scheme aims to improve current Housing Executive properties for both existing tenants and future applicants.

“Issues were identified and the scheme will improve thermal efficiency in the properties, as well as being cost efficient.

“We have recently completed a similar scheme in the Seagoe Road / Greenview Gardens areas of Portadown which was greatly welcomed.

“This is an excellent example of the Housing Executive’s commitment to improve homes and develop neighbourhoods in Banbridge and the surrounding area.”

DUP Upper Bann Assembly candidate Carla Lockhart has welcomed the commencement of a work scheme at Huntly.

The scheme which was due to begin in early 2016 had been the subject of some delays.

She said: “I welcome the fact that this work has now begun.

“The delays were unnecessary and causing distress to the residents mostly due to the lack of communication and uncertainty.

“The work, which will leave the properties with a more permanent structure, will be of great benefit to those who live there who felt the Housing Executive had forgotten about them.

“I have been in regular communication with them and lobbied to Minister and the local housing Executive staff regularly on their behalf I hope now this has begun that it be carried out to a very high standard and done quickly.”
