‘Holy Oxygen’ at Clonmacnois next weekend

EACH year, Clonmacnois plays host to Ireland’s largest Catholic Youth Festival.

With over 1,000 young people in attendance, it has been nicknamed the ‘Holy Oxegen’.

For four days, August 9 - 12, the scenic fields surrounding the beautiful and historic site of Clonmacnois, will be turned into a marquee city, buzzing with young people from all over Ireland and indeed beyond.

The weekend promises to be something very special indeed, with international speakers, inspiring workshops and talks, music and concerts, Mass, Adoration, games, a time to relax and reflect, and perhaps most importantly an opportunity for young people to meet other young people like themselves where are discovering the true meaning of being young and having faith.

The Festival is for all 16 to 35 year-olds. It is a free weekend, with no cost (but donations are welcome), and the team behind it believe it will be an amazing spectacle of young people coming together in community, in fun and sharing of faith, with Jesus in the Eucharist at the centre.

All the young people need to bring are some warm clothes, a sleeping bag, and possibly a pair of wellies!

The Festival is organised by a group called Youth 2000, and was set up following a call from the late Pope John Paul II for youth to evangelise their peers.

This is exactly what Youth 2000 does; they encourage young people to gather at their retreats, festivals and prayer groups - almost 50 in total and all around Ireland - to put Jesus at the centre of their lives and to become more involved in their Church!
