There was praise this week for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust after it notched up four successes at the Royal College of Nursing Nurse of the Year Awards.

Upper Bann MLA and UUP health spokesperson Jo-Anne Dobson said: “I know just how hard our nurses work on behalf of patients, their families and medical professionals and that’s what makes this recognition from the Royal College so special.”

At the recent ceremony, held this year at Hillsborough Castle to mark the RCN’s centenary, the Team Manager Award went to Craigavon Hospital’s Children’s Ward Manager Judith Mulligan and runner-up in the Brownlee Silverdale Leadership Award went to Trust Assistant Director Geraldine Maguire; Jane Ferguson, Co-Ordinator of Hearty Lives, Craigavon, won the Public Health Award and Eimer McGeown, Breast Care Specialist, was runner-up in the Cancer Nurse category.”

Said Mrs Dobson: “It was an absolute honour to be present and to see the fabulous nurses of our local Trust performing so well.”
