Parents join celebrations as Kinallen’s Katie weighs in as unit’s 500th arrival

Kinallen couple Stephen and Pamela Spiers were delighted recently to return to the Lagan Valley Hospital’s Midwifery-Led Unit to celebrate the birth of their daughter Katie, the 500th baby delivered at the Lisburn unit.

Katie is Stephen and Pamela’s first daughter after two sons, Bradley and Ethan (also pictured here with midwife Winnie Chambers) both also Lagan Valley babies.

A spokesperson for the unit said, “Pamela experienced a wonderful relaxing waterbirth using the ensuite birthing pool.

“These water births are enjoyed by 30% of our first time mums and 40% of all other mums also birth in our large pools.”

Opened for just over two years, Lagan Valley’s Midwifery Led Unit is delighted to reach its 500th birth.

The spokesperson said. “In fact, the midwives have been so busy that we had not realised we were well past our 500th baby six weeks ago.”

She added, “Lagan Valley Midwifery Led Unit will be having its second open evening on 26 September and will be inviting prospective parents, health professionals and schools to attend.”
