Carers events highlight their vital role

CARERS Matter is helping promote ‘Carers Week’ - 13th to 19th June - by holding a number of local events to higlight the critical role of carers in the community.

These include a store collection at Tesco, Banbridge, on Friday (June 3) from 9am-1pm and a coffee morning in Gilford on Tuesday, 7th June, 10am-12pn.

Student support services at Southern Regional College, Banbridge campus, are also highlighting the work of carers on Tuesday, 7th June, 2pm-4pm, while the support group will be at Laurencetown Community Centre on the same date from 7.30pm until 9pm.

An information event has also been planned to take place at Craigavon Area Hospital on Tuesday, 14th June, running from 9am until 4pm.

Highlighting the range of events, a spokesperson said, “Carers Matter are eager to ensure that carers are offered the information, advice and support needed to help them continue in their caring role.

“We offer a confidential service to carers through one-to-one meetings, home visits, support groups and outreach centres.”

Carers Matter run drop-in coffee clubs in the Banbridge, Portadown, Lurgan, Armagh and Coalisland and all carers from these areas are welcome to call in for a cuppa and a chat at any of the venues.

The group also facilitates several Carers Support groups throughout the area, where carers have the opportunity to have a break from their caring role and to take part in activities such as flower arranging, complimentary therapies, first aid training or day trips.
