Fire crews from Banbridge responded to a call at 1am last Thursday morning to a mid terrace house at Kenlis Street in the town.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet and a covering jet to put out a fire in the kitchen.

A 70-year-old man suffered mild smoke inhalation. Fire crews had to ventilate the smoke from the premises and the cause of the fire appears to have been accidental.

Meanwhile a car was set on fire in an apparent arson attack at Ardaghy Road in the Kilcoo area outside Rathfriland also on Thursday.

Firefighters used a hosereel jet to put out the fire at around 4.40am.

Fire crews from Rathfriland and Newcastle stations attended the incident.
