A local cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital following an accident last week.
At approximately 7.40pm on Tuesday, July 9, it was reported that a collision involving cyclist Paul Carlisle and a tractor occurred on the Aughnacloy Road between Drone Hill Road and Castlevennan Road.
He was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he remains in a critical condition.
The former Chairman of Banbridge District Council, Councillor Junior McCrum, has urged local people to be extra cautious, particularly during the summer months when more cyclists and pedestrians may be out on the roads.
“I think there is a need for everyone to be careful on the roads at this time of year, particularly as farmers are moving silage and there are a lot of tractors about,” said Mr McCrum.
“It’s up to everyone to keep an eye out for other road users as you could end up having a bad accident very easily. With children being off school there is an increase in the chances of an accident happening. I would encourage parents to keep an eye on them, who they are with and what they are doing.”
