Took some alcohol for her cold

Even though she had some drink taken a 42-year-old woman decided to drive and her driving attracted the attention of the police.

Arlene Todd, Edenderry Park, Banbridge, was banned for 12 months last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court for driving with excess alcohol in breath on January 5 this year.

She was also fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that police received reports of a car being driven erratically in the Ballyward area.

They saw the car crossing the white line and she was stopped at Downshire Road, Banbridge. A breath test gave a reading of 70.

A solicitor representing the defendant said she had taken some alcohol earlier in the evening for her cold and got into her car to get supplies for her daughter who needed them for school the next day.

He added that she had been driving for 25 years with no record
