A MAN appeared in court on Friday in Mauritius on charges relating to circumstances surrounding the murder of Michaela McAreavey.

The new bride of Tullylish footballer John McAreavey was found dead in their honeymoon suite at the Legends hotel in January last year.

Dassen Naraynen (27) appeared in court on Friday accused of conspiracy to commit larceny. He denies the charge. He was initially charged some time ago with murder but that was dropped.

The country’s police asked for more time to investigate a case involving a former security guard at the hotel where Michaela McAreavey was murdered.

During the hearing, police asked for more time to search for evidence and complete their investigation.

Two men charged with the murder were acquitted in July.
