When police inspected a car driven by a Gilford man they found that both of the front tyres were defective.

Patrick Mackin (21), Kernan Road, Gilford, pleaded guilty to two charges of having a defective tyre when he appeared last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court. For each offence he was fined £50.

He was also given three penalty points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that as Mackin tried to negotiate a roundabout he lost control of his vehicle. Police found that both the front tyres were defective.

Both were devoid of tread and wire was showing through on one of them.

Mackin told the judge that he should have checked the tyres.
