Police have arrested a man following a theft from a card shop in Banbridge.

On Monday, 1 February, a number of Yankee candles were taken from a The Card Cave on Newry Street.

During follow up enquiries police conducted the search of a property in Clonabay, Coalisland, on Tuesday, 2 February.

A 30 year old man was arrested for theft and a vehicle was seized.

The man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

During three thefts at the Banbridge premises, several hundred pounds worth of Yankee Candles were stolen.

During the most recent incident two male suspects were chased on foot by some concerned members of the community.

They may have seen the males get into a black Vauxhall Corsa and drive off.

Police would like to speak to anyone who chased the suspects, saw the chase, or saw them drive away.

Meanwhile police have said the message to shop lifters is clear- “you’re not wanted”.

“Your thieving ways will catch up with you, quite possibly in the form of us coming through your front door and taking you back out in handcuffs.

“People work hard to build their livelihood in honest, hard working ways. Give it a try.”

Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 304 of 01/02/16.
