Police in Banbridge are appealing for information following the theft of home heating oil from a house on Roses Green, Lawrencetown on Tuesday, November 5.
It is believed a vehicle would have been required to move the oil and police are appealing to anyone who noticed activity in the area to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Wilson offered advice, emphasizing the importance of protecting your yard against easy access from criminals. Good gates, fences and perimeter alarming are a deterrent, along with scrubbery, caging or walling around the tank and also sensored lighting and CCTV.
Security features for the tank are good such as a locking cap, oil level indicators, and anti tampering devices. To have warning of impending thefts fit ‘Secured by Design’ warning devices such as Tank Commander and advertise any anti theft devices to the potential thief.
Finally, check your heating oil at least twice a week, keep receipts after purchase of heating oil and report anything suspicious around a neighbours home immediately.
The message from police is don’t be caught out in the cold by thieves.
