Ambulance staff abused after man falls from a wall

He also knocked a constable off balance before kicking him on the head saying ‘what a cracker’.

Conal Moore, Dunbarton Bungalows, Gilford, admitted assault on a police officer when he appeared last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

The court heard that in the early hours of the morning on October 29 this year police received a report of an unconscious male in Gilford.

Ambulance staff were treating Moore who pushed them away and then was verbally abusive to police and ambulance staff calling them ‘b—ds’ and ‘w—rs’.

He managed to push a police officer off balance and kicked him on the head before saying ‘what a cracker that was, do you want some more?’

A barrister representing the defendant said Moore had fallen off a wall and banged his head and an ambulance was called. He added that this was ‘totally out of character’ for the accused who took this matter very seriously and would offer his apologies for his behaviour. The barrister said Moore had been with friends and had taken alcohol. The last thing he remembered was walking across a wall.

District Judge Eamonn King said the defendant had no record and was in full time employment and he wondered what he had taken to make him act out of character.

The judge added that when he was charged Moore had said ‘very, very sorry, I can’t believe I done that’.

Moore was fined £250 and ordered to pay £250 compensation to the police officer he assaulted. He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
