RCN seeks community groups

Rural Community Network is actively seeking rural community groups to participate on the innovative Capacity Building Towards Rural Reconciliation Programme.

This eight session training programme, funded by the EU Programme 2000 – 2006 through the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland Measure 2.7 Building Community Capacity and Promoting Active Citizenship, will be running in your area shortly and can be arranged at a time convenient to your group.

The programme examines community development, peace building and community relations issues and is particularly useful for community groups who are newly established. In addition to the training, groups have the opportunity to apply for a grant of 1,500 towards a peace building activity and receive dedicated support and mentoring from one of Rural Community Network's community development officers.

Caroline Maguire, Community Development Officer for the programme said 'The programme is a springboard for community groups to get more people involved in community activity from the local area.' She continued 'The small grant, which is available after group members have undertaken the initial training, has opened up new opportunities for previous recipients.'

One member of Cavanacarragh Community Association who is currently participating in the programme stated 'Being involved in this programmme has propagated an idea about getting cross community involvement, it has shown us that we have a lot of potential within our group.'

For an information leaflet or to discuss the programme in more detail, contact Caroline at Rural Community Network on 028 8676 6670 or email caroline@ruralcommunitynetwork.org
