Knockiveagh Councillor Brendan Curran and Tommy O’Connor, Chair and Vice Chair respectively of Banbridge and Craigavon District Councils’ Environmental Services Committees, have welcomed Power NI as the renewable energy provider for both Councils over the next year.

Councillor Curran explained that both Councils had been part of a tender offer from 20 of the 26 Local Government Authorities for a renewable energy source.

“By working together as one group we were able to offer a single contract and maximise our purchasing power.

“As a result of this combined tender we have not only helped protect the environment by sourcing renewable energy but have done so at the best possible cost,” he said.

“This is good news for both Councils and we are delighted to have secured Power NI as our renewable energy provider,” added Councillor O’Connor.

“By harnessing our collective purchasing power we have secured a great deal for the rate payers.”

Alan Egner, from Power NI said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract following a competitive process.
