A body found near the River Lagan in Donaghcloney is believed to be that of Maurice Reubens.
The news comes after police confirmed that they had found a body in the Milltown Road area of the village on Friday afternoon.
At this stage the body has not been officially identified but it is understood locally that the deceased is Mr Reubens.
The news has brought sadness to the village. Mayor of Craigavon and Donaghcloney resident, Councillor Mark Baxter, said he hoped Mr Rubens’ friends and family were nearing closure on the matter.
The DUP representative said, “I have spoken to locals in the village this morning who are shocked and saddened by this terrible and tragic discovery.
“My thoughts and prayers now are with the family and friends of Maurice who have been searching and hoping for all these months for his safe return. It’s very sad.”
Mr Rubens had been missing from his home since being last seen at 6pm on Sunday, March 31, in a takeaway restaurant in the Main Street area.
Police had said they had become increasingly worried for his safety and had mounted a search to find him.
