Allowed speed to creep up

A lack of concentration led to a 26-year-old man allowing his speed to go beyond the limit while driving on the A1 dual carriageway on April 2 this year.

Stephen Henning, The Rowans, Banbridge, was fined £60 last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court for an excess speed offence.

He was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

For failing to produce his driving licence he was fined £40.

The court heard the defendant was detected travelling at 80mph in a 60mph zone on the A1 near Dromore.

A solicitor representing the defendant said that he was offered a fixed penalty but he could not find the counterpart of his licence.

She added that his only explanation was a lack of concentration on his way home from work.
