ABC Councillor Glenn Barr has said he is overjoyed by recent signing of the Armed Forces Community Covenant and looks forward to more Councils following suit.

On the 27th July Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council signed the Armed Forces Community Covenant. Mr. Barr said it was signed with little fanfare and no jingoistic hype, it was the first to be signed in Northern Ireland.

The Community Covenant Grant scheme is a fund of 10 million pounds per year for the next twenty five years designed to help those serving soldiers, veterans and their families who are in need.

“The Armed Forces Community Covenant complements, at a local level, the Armed Forces Covenant which was introduced in the United Kingdom in 2011,” said Mr. Barr.

“The Armed Forces Covenant is important to our community which is why Councillor Doug Beattie MC and myself will be hosting a meeting for local community groups to learn more about the Community Covenant and how they can get involved, this meeting will be held in Banbridge Royal British Legion on September 1st 2015 at 8:30pm.

“Everyone is welcome to come along”
