YOU TUBES

THE son of a Banbridge woman killed in an accident on the A1 has blasted the maniacs who have recorded themselves racing along the carriageway and posted the clip on the internet.

And local police chief Christine McCullough has branded their actions irresponsible and has vowed to investigate the matter with a view to taking action.

The footage, which appears on popular website You Tube, is titled Integra Type R vs Civic Type R - racing up (the) carriageway.

It shows two cars racing along the A1 at Banbridge and reaching speeds of 120mph.

The local man, who did not wish to be named, said he is outraged by the actions of the boy racers.

double

"These guys are driving at double the speed limit along this stretch of road which is sickening," he said.

"If someone was to have pulled out on them there would have been no way they could have avoided an accident and the certain death of either themselves or other road users.

"However when an accident like that normally happens it is the morons who cause it who usually walk away leaving other innocent motorists dead or fighting for their lives.

"I travel on the A1 every day and I regularly see people passing me at 70 and 80mph and the reason they are doing it is because they are getting away with it."

investigate

Meanwhile Chief Inspector McCullough has vowed to investigate the footage and has appealed for anyone with information on those responsible to get in contact.

"We do not monitor internet sites on a day-to-day basis. However, we will take appropriate action when we receive complaints of criminal offences that occur within our jurisdiction," she said.

"In this instance police have been made aware of this footage and we are currently investigating the matter.

"Any evidence we become aware of will be examined with a view to taking action against anyone that puts lives at risk by driving in this irresponsible manner.

"I would appeal for anyone with any information about those responsible to contact police at Banbridge station."
