TEN YEARS ON THE ANGUISH WON'T GO AWAY FOR POYNTZPASS FAMILIES
TEN years ago next week lifelong friends Phillip Allen and Damian Trainor were shot dead in Poyntzpass in one of the most brutal and callous killings of Northern Ireland's bloody Troubles.
But despite the passage of time the pain and suffering is as raw for the families of the murdered men as it was on that dreadful night.
On March 3, 1998, evil killers Noel McCready and Stephen McClean burst into the Railway Bar in Poyntzpass and riddled it with bullets killing Damian, a Catholic, and Phillip, a Protestant, and wounding two others.
Their accomplices David Keys and Ryan Robley acted as getaway drivers.
McCready and McClean are still in prison and it is the wish of the grieving families that they remain behind bars for the rest of their lives.
Robley has since been released after serving time for his part in the killings while Keys was murdered in the LVF wing of the Maze prison days after being charged.
It was believed Keys had passed information about the murders to police.
In interviews with the Leader - which are being shown on our websites - the mothers of Phillip and Damian have told how that awful night changed their lives forever.
Ann Trainor and Ethel Allen tell how they think of their loving sons every day.
They recall the dreadful moment they learned of the shooting and the scene which greeted them as they entered the Railway Bar and saw their sons lying dying.
They go on to reveal how the support they have received from the community over the last 10 years has helped them try and piece their lives back together.
And they both speak of their hatred of the killers and are adamant they should both rot in jail for the rest of their lives.
