Peter Pan panto kicks off the festive season

PETER Pan, the boy who just didn’t want to grow up - one of children literature’s most enduring characters - will be taking on his eternal nemesis, Captain Cook in the Banbridge Musical Society’s production of the J.M. Barrie classic for their annual pantomine.

And Nicola Johnston, who will celebrate her 25th birthday next month, is playing the title role and she says that she can’t wait to tread the boards in what she describes as a modern retelling of the book.

“Our director, Leonard, has included some modern songs like Lady GaGa’s ‘edge of Glory’, Take That’s ‘Rule the World’, so it relates to 2012,” revealed the Portadown. “I would just say to everyone to come and see it.

“We’ve been rehearsing since September and everyone in front and behind the stage has been working tirelessly. Everyone should come; it’s a great way to kick-start the festive season.”

Many of the society’s members hail from Portadown, although in his year’s production, Nicola as Peter Pan will be crossing swords with Anthony Fitzpatrick, from Newry, who is Captain Hook.

Peter Pan is staged at The Iveagh, Banbridge, from today (Friday) to Saturday, November 24 with matinee showings on Saturday. To book tickets please phone the Iveagh box office on 40 662 666. Tickets cost £0, concessions £9 with family tickets priced £36.

For group bookings please contact Diane Hamill on 07970116746.
