Rita enjoyed cooking and knitting for her family

THE passing of Rita Elizabeth Sipson took place at Iveagh Private Nursing Home on Wednesday August 1.

She was the dearly loved wife of the late Frederick (Fred).

A resident in the home for the past three years, she was tenderly cared for by all the staff there. A native of Ballymena, she came to reside in Banbridge after her husband was demobed and joined the T.A. and resided at the T.A. Camp in Hill Street.

She resided in different areas of the town bringing up her family here. A woman of many sterling qualities she was of a cheery and friendly disposition and made many friends in whatever circles she moved. She worked as a Home Carer for a time but her main interest was centred around her home and family. She enjoyed home cooking and knitting especially for her family.

She attended worship in St Patrick’s and St. Therese Chapels. During her lifetime of 88 years she suffered the passing of two of her children Freda and Rosaleen and this left a sad mark on her life. She is survived by seven daughters Mary (Ballymena), June (Banbridge), Anne (Banbridge), Helen (Banbridge), Kathleen (Bristol), Brenda (Banbridge) and Rita (Banbridge), two sons Freddy (London) and Kevin (Bristol), 24 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended. The funeral took place on Friday from the home of her daughter Brenda 8 Brookfield Park, Banbridge for a service in St Therese Chapel at which the large congregation heard Father Tony Corr pay a fitting tribute in his Homily.

The soloist was Miss Catriona Scullion who was a great niece of Mrs. Sipson. Doreen Finnegan presided at the organ. The interment took place afterwards in the New Cemetery. Family Flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Iveagh House and Chest, Heart and Stroke Association (Cheques made payable to William Bell and Co).

William Bell and Co had charge of the funeral arrangements.
